Hairstyles to Look Younger - Which Styles Are Best?

It's a commonly held notion that as you get older, you should have shorter hair. The feeling seems to be that long hair makes mature women look older.

That doesn't have to be the case, however. The reality is finding the hairstyle that's going to make you look young is the one that looks best on you. That might not make sense. Let's look at this further.

Many older women can wear long hair and wear it successfully, but just as many can't. Why? Much has to do with the shape of your face as well as how you age. If you have a long face, as you get older, that long face can look longer and even perhaps more gaunt. If you are wearing long hair, that gaunt look can translate into an old look. In that case, your best bet would be to not wear your hair long. For you, it would be old looking.

Another woman, however, might be able to wear long hair better as she matures. This woman might have a round, even plump face. Perhaps she's got good genes and she's taken good care of her skin. She can maybe handle a little more length on her hair. And for some women, the longer hair can make them look younger.

So much depends on your skin, your face shape and how well your skin is aging (and it's important to be honest here).

Let's look at some popular hairstyles that look the best on aging women in general.

The 'bob" is a popular hairstyle for women of a wide array of ages, but it's particularly flattering to the aging population. Bobs can be short, just below the ear, or longer, even down to the shoulders. They can be perky, with many layers thrown in, or they can be simpler, with no layers and a straight styling.

Perhaps what makes the bob good for all ages, then, is its versatility. If you think that your face can still carry off the look of long hair but you don't have the time to style a long hairstyle, you can keep a longer bob. Know that your skin and face just don't tolerate a long hairstyle? Opt for a short bob with a few simple layers. Styling and upkeep are simple and fuss free.

The final consideration when thinking about hairstyles as we age is our hair condition.

Many women have gorgeous hair that looks healthy when they are 20 or 60, but many more of us have hair that ages with us. Perhaps it thins as we get older, or becomes a little more brittle. In that case, trying to pull off a long style just makes little sense. If the hair doesn't look healthy when it's long, then it makes you look old.

So much about our personal style is personal. That is, we are each unique and different and we must be honest with ourselves when we consider which clothes look the best on us, how much weight we need to lose or gain and how well our skin is aging. Finding the right hairstyle is no different. It takes a little experimentation, but it's worth the effort to find the right "young" hairstyle.

Best Hairstyles to Look Younger

The wrong haircut can be terribly aging but if you add a wrongly chosen hair color, there, you have the recipe for a hair disaster!

It is important to choose a style that's age-appropriate, but what's even more crucial is finding a haircut that suits your lifestyle and complements the shape of your face and your features - a good haircut, shape and color will make the most of your hair whatever your age.

That said, it's okay to try something different if you're keeping some principles in mind.

In the teens and 20s, people are expressing themselves through their looks. The styles are trendy, very celebrity and music-oriented. When you're young you can experiment with different colors and lengths and be more explosive in your expression. Opt for layered, textured styles - short or long - and have fun with styling.

The look women tend to choose in their 30s has to coincide with where they're setting their goals in life. When choosing a new cut, think 'simple elegance' and not 'alternative' - go for mid-length to longer, layered hairstyles and try to skip very short styles or anything too extreme.

The 40s are all about glamor - this is when a woman's hair should have versatility, length and movement to create the perfect frame for the features. Opt for length and layers that add softness to bone structure. Really short haircuts and sharp angles look too severe.

Women in their 50 and older need hairstyles that make their cheekbones have a cut to them or bring attention to their eyes. Don't try to look 20 - simple elegance the key. Layered bobs and texturized one-length cuts work beautifully as they create movement and lift around the face. Avoid bangs, chin-length hair and blunt, sharp styles.

Always have regular trims to maintain both your hairstyle and condition. Ask your stylist for some soft, feathery shaping around the face and consider having a side fringe.

The most important factor to remember is always work with the texture of your hair, not against it.

If gray hair is a problem, a few highlights can help revive your hair color and will instantly add depth to your style.

The biggest mistake people make is to think that bleached highlights will make them look younger - in fact, as you age, your skin tone changes so you need to pick a color that suits you. Your highlights should remain within two shades of your natural tone.

Remember, the proper haircut and a beautiful hair color can make you look 10 years younger, so invest in the best.

2009 Hairstyles - The Latest Hairstyles!

In 2009 hairstyles are exciting, many old styles, but lots of new twists. There is a strong retro influence from the forties, forties hairstyles were sleek, well groomed and can be dressed up for added sophistication. The kinks we see in 2009 hairstyles are a direct influence from this time, with hitherto bone straight hair getting an added flair by the use of curling tongs to add flips and barrel curls. This adds a new dimension to styles such as the bob, which for some years has been a favourite hairstyle.

Last year saw Victoria Beckham shed her bob and bravely go for the extra short chop, but this does not signify the end of the bob, it will remain fashionable throughout 2009 and can still be seen on catwalks around the world, as it is a timeless classic. If a hairstyle is feeling a little tired, 2009 is the year to update it. Updating any hairstyle can easily be achieved with the use of clever layers, adding texture and body to otherwise flat hairstyles.

Color too in 2009 hairstyles is quite dramatic, with a strong move towards reds, from deep red hair color to fun and trendy pink shades. Remember that if you choose a red hair color, that this color fades fastest, so hair products that maintain color are a must. As is a complimentary makeup palette, including neutral shades such as gold, chestnut and smokey eyes. Those who still prefer blonde, should go for multi-tonal effects, rather than one flat shade.

This gives a more natural effect that will almost sparkle and takes advantage of the latest hairstyle technology. Brunettes are going for chocolate and chestnut shades, steering clear of jet black, again giving more depth and warmth to hair. 2009 hairstyle colors are adventurous, with more than one color being the way forward this year. Layers together with hair color, can really dramatically improve and update a hairstyle, ask your hair dresser for multi-tonal color and choose shades across a blended palette for a natural look.

Keeping hair healthy is also essential and key to looking good. This is best achieved through a healthy diet and the use of heat protective sprays when styling, a good conditioner and shampoo. Serums are probably every girls best friend and as 2009 hairstyles are quite versatile, a serum is a must to keep whatever style you choose looking shiny.

Curly hair is going to be easier to maintain in 2009, with fluffy hairstyles being more acceptable, a bed head look, which we can all achieve without too much trouble, is trendy. Going for the unkempt look, with back combing adding some height and boldness to 2009 hairstyles that is reminiscent of the sixties. Back combing should be done at the roots and the top layers of hair smoothed down to achieve the look. Quiffs too are popular hairstyles this year, not just being seen in mens hairstyles, but also womens hairstyles in 2009 are incorporating quiffs, to add dramatic effects on updos and short hairstyles alike.

There is interesting cross between the unkempt sixties look with the well groomed forties style, so if you do back comb, keeping some areas sleek, will make your hairdo stand out from the crowd. This year also hair accessories play a major part in hair styling. From large bows to feathers in the hair, it is a nice trend, as any hair can be glammed up or have a touch of interest added quite easily by using a few well chosen accessories.

One accessory that may celebrities are wearing is the plaited hair Alice Band. Worn like a band it gives a very groomed and intricate appearance to any hairstyle, especially updos and mid length hair. Find a plait to match your own hair color and then experiment to make it blend with your own hair. Overall 2009 hairstyles are versatile, practical and bold, with so much to choose from 2009 is looking to be a great year!

Hairstyles For Women Over 40 and 50

Hairstyles for women in their forties and fifties are often based upon the realisation that at one stage in life there has to be a change made. We have to let go of the past and prepare ourselves to enter the middle stages of our lives. To do this we will look at our family surroundings, sometimes our partners, that twenty year old lounge suite or bedroom setting and then ourselves.

It is often that when we reach forty we will consider a new hairstyle and if we do not make that decision in our forties then most definitely we will as we enter our fifties. On each visit to our favorite salon, as we get up the courage to make those changes, we will see new booths going up. There is one for the masseuse, the nail technician and the beauty therapist.

Ever evolving salons are recognizing the individual tastes of women and are meeting their requirements to provide to them a one stop shop where they can be pampered for the day, leaving totally relaxed and comfortable in the thought that they look absolutely gorgeous.

Hot Short Hairstyles For 2009

Looking for the hot short hairstyles for 2009? You don't have look too far. While long hair abounds (and is beautiful), short hair is "in" and the best styles for 2009 are right in front of us!

Jennifer Aniston and Victoria Beckham are two celebrities whose hairstyles have spawned worldwide trends. While Jennifer Aniston's tousled hair had a certain irresistible and timeless charm, it is Victoria Beckham's latest pixie cut that is currently sending women rushing to make appointments with their hairdressers. Should you join the crowd in an attempt to be hip and happening or should you make an appointment for a unique short cut that will help you stand out from the crowd?

What to Consider Before You Cut

Not every trendy design is meant for every woman. While most women will be able pull off at least one of the many short hairstyles, there are some things you need to think about before you decide which one.

Your Age- Age does play a factor. Overly trendy cuts of the moment can make a more mature woman look like she trying too hard to look younger than she really is.

Your Face Shape - Face shape also plays a very important role in determining whether a cut will work on you or not. Instead of just looking at the hair itself when looking at photos you are considering, look at the face shape of the celebrity or model. If you cannot find an example of a hair style on a person with your face shape, there is probably a very good reason.

Your Lifestyle - Another thing you need to consider when deciding which of the hot short hairstyles you'd like to try for 2009 is your lifestyle and personality type. Some cuts require much more maintenance than others. Be realistic and don't opt for a design that you will never have the time or patience to maintain. A style that looks as it was intended is always much more attractive than a great cut that is never fixed properly.

What Short Hairstyles Should You Consider?

If your face is thin and angular, go for the super short pixie do sported by fabulous celebs like Victoria Beckham and Alyssa Milano. If these cut seems a little too severe for your tastes, opt for a very short shag instead. This hairstyle is best on round and square face shapes because the longer pieces towards the front help to add needed angles to the face. Ovals should avoid the short shag.

The short bob is definitely one of the hottest cuts for 2009. Celebrities of all ages can be seen sporting a version of the short bob including Paris Hilton and Kelly Clarkson. The 2009 bob does not have to be worn straight. Curly and wavy versions of this hairstyle are also very popular this year. This is a great style for almost every face shape except those that are very round. It is also very low maintenance and can be styled in a variety of ways for different looks.

The Best Hairstyles Of 2009 and Great Celebrity Hair Trends

This is a hairstyles question lots of people ask, the problem is hairstyles come and go, they are fads and very often the hairstyles people choose do not tend to fit their faces.

Having said that the most popular hairstyle for 2009 would have to be the choppy, layered, short to long haircut. This hairstyle has been in style for quite a while; it seems to have staying power to say the least.

The bob also seems to be a good trend setter for 2009 hairstyles. Famous celebrities like Katie Holmes (great celebrity hair) use this but you should note that the bob hairstyle works best on straight hair, the bangs should be completely blunt and straight and cut just above the eyebrow.

If you have a round face make sure you ask for a bob hairstyle that is longer with side swept bangs, the Bob can be used on long and medium length hair The BOB hairstyle is definitely back.

The other popular hair styles of 2009 are bangs this includes fringed bangs and side bangs- the fringe hairstyle that is curved straight across bangs is also in style.

When it comes to color and hair styles, it is best to stay natural highlights and big standout are best choices. Blond streaks seem to be going out of fashion. Unless of course you use some natural undertone highlight color.

Like I said just because these hair styles tend to be going out does not mean that you can't and should not do them, they may very well suit you and you may make the hair style trendy. Try to set your own style, remember that hair style fads come and go, so you need to select something that fits well with your face and look.

Remember that only few people can pull these kinds of haircuts and hairstyle changes off, so it is best not to go and get a new haircut or new hair style every time a new hair trend or hair style is out.

Always get a hair-style. That actually compliments your face, and that looks good on your and your lifestyle.

If you do so you will always have the right hair cut and hair style even if it's not trendy in 2009.

Other trendy hair styles of 2009 include:

Side bangs with layers in it

A bob or choppy

Fringe bangs

Shorter layers on top leading to longer layers on bottom.

And Side bangs with anything.

Hope this helps

Hairstyles Over 40 - Find a New Trendy Hairstyle

Don't think for one moment that when you reach your 40's that you won't be able to have the same sort of hairstyle that women in their 20's have. What many women do not realize is that age has little to do with what hairstyle you have. Certainly when it comes to hairstyles over 40 women can have there are plenty of different ones that they can choose from.

In fact if you thought that being able to wear a hairstyle that is trendy is not for you then think again. As you will soon discover there are plenty of hairstyles around that you can have but be worn in a different way. In fact you may find a style that could be extremely flattering from you and will have people thinking you are younger than you really are. Below we take a look at some of the hairstyles over 40 women can wear if they want.

One hairstyle that really is flattering for women who are of a certain age is the short layered style. Through going for a bob length cut that is made up of many different layers can help to create a more elegant look. Plus this particular style is great for adding texture which creates more volume.

With this particular style you can then go for side swept bangs which are proving very popular at the moment. These are not only easy to main but can provide definition to your face and accentuate your good points whilst hiding those that you would rather others did not see.

Although you may hear stories that women as they grow older should not have long hair this is simply not the case. However, if you do intend to grow yours long then it should never be worn straight as it can actually age you more quickly. Rather with this sort of hairstyle it is important that you add so definition to it. The best way of achieving this is by adding waves or curls to the bottom of the hair.

As with short hair to help give volume to your hair when long you should have it layered. Ideally look for styles that frame your face well. Plus if you are intending to allow your hair to grow long you need to consider its texture. Certainly if you have thick textured hair you may find that a short style is more suitable than wearing your hair long.

However, if you are notice that your hair is thinning a little avoid a hairstyle whether short or long to know have too many layers cut into your hair. Rather than helping to make your hair look thicker it will accentuate the thinning more.

Above we have offered a few tips with regards to how to select a suitable hairstyle when you reach 40. However, don?t think for one minute that hairstyles over 40 women can wear have to be boring. There are plenty of great trendy styles that if cut in the right way will look just as good on a woman of 40 as they do on say a 20 or 30 year old woman.

Celebrity Hairstyles - The Shag Hairstyle

The fashionable layered haircut called the shag hair style has been embraced by many stars and people have followed by the masses. The shag takes many forms and is basically a messy layered cut. Layers are more prominent towards and around the face with hair length ranging from short, medium and long. Shags can be curly, wavy or straight. The look is crisp, carefree yet still professional.

This hairstyle is so versatile that and potentially looks fantastic on anyone regardless of their age, hair length, texture or color. The short style gives elder women more flamboyancy and youthfulness in their appearance. Doesn't Lisa Rinna always look exceptional? Her short multi layered cut gives her a sophisticated yet I'm ready to play persona. The chocolate brown with blond highlights admiringly complements her facial features and is suitable for any occasion.

Paula Deen's Layered Shag

What about the beloved restauranteur Paula Deen? Paula's layered shag haircut speaks for itself - she doesn't even need to color her hair! Paula Deen has adopted a medium shag varying her layers from softly angled, straight and to beautiful waves always giving her that graceful radiant quality.

And of course who could forget the classic blond Meg Ryan shag, giving her that irresistible innocent charm. Other celebs with shags include Jodie Foster, Kate Micucci, Sharon Stone, Reese Witherspoon, HalleBerry, Jessica Biel and Sharon Osbourne.

Male celebrities

Famous men have also jumped on board the shag craze. Brad Pitt's just got out of bed look makes any woman go wild. Other shagsters include chef Gordon Ramsay, David Duchovny and Owen Wilson.

Stars with a shag radiate youth and trendiness. But what more do these styles say about the celebrities or more importantly what are they trying to convey?

No matter whether she's in the kitchen or the garden, Paula Deen always looks presentable. Being in an advisory position, if you will, Paula has gained our trust and our love for her. How did she do it? Not only through her priceless knowledge and charisma, but also with a hairstyle that says "with age comes wisdom and I still know how to be hip".

We know sadly David Duchovny has been trounced by his sex addiction but to his credit has sought rehabilitation assistance. His ever sexy shag haircut gives him a boyish innocent charm. Who would have guessed that such a stylish and poised Fox Moulder would encounter any such dilemma?

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's long burgundy cut with shaggy side bang has given her a boost of freshness, perhaps a Bittersweet edge.

Owen Wilson's medium wavy layered cut is rather unique. It's still suitable for professional outings and for his age yet no woman can resist the young blond surfy guy look he presents. He says he's a trouble maker and his rugged sexy cut confirms that.

A celebrity that just exudes fun and enthusiasm, Lisa Rina's multi layered cut says I'm wild and ready for action, quite appropriate for her Chicago musical.

As you can see, the shag hairstyle is so versatile in terms of both the look and the persona that it can portray. Stylists of the above celebrities are miracle makers, capturing each of their personalities and presenting them in sophisticated fun loving shag styles.

Hopefully we'll see more and more celebrities take our breath away with their gorgeous shags.

Wedding Hairstyles Run the Gamut From Simple to Upswept

Any bride knows that deciding how to wear her hair is a big decision. Of course, the veil design will be a big factor in how the bride wears her hair, but there are other considerations like what styles are popular right now and what will suit the dress the best.

In the end, though, there are three basic hairstyles that are the most popular among brides these days - hair that is worn down and wavy, hair that's swept up and hair that's half up and half down.

Let's look at each one in detail.

Wavy

Following the trend of what's popular in hair right now in general, many brides opt for hair that's parted in the middle and flows over the shoulders in soft waves.

Although this hairstyle is best suited for women who have hair well below their shoulders, it can work with just about any length hair. The essence of this style is romance, so it's really all about getting a nice wave in the hair and creating a style that will last for the duration of the wedding and the reception.

Just about any veil will look nice with this kind of hairstyle, but most experts say that your veil should be longer than your hair, so brides with very long hair might opt for a very long veil.

Upswept

This is the traditional and common way to wear hair for a wedding. Hair is swept up in some kind of off the neck style. It depends on the bride, the hair, the style of dress and a number of other factors how the hair is swept up.

Women with very long hair might enjoy the less formal upsweep that features little ringlets left loose and a casual pilling of the hair on the head. A woman with a shorter hairstyle might opt for a tight bun.

Because many wedding dresses these days are strapless, wearing the hair up is a way to really accentuate the dress and highlight the bride's long neck and facial features.

Just about any kind of veil will work with this hairstyle as well, but many women will choose to go without a veil and will wear a crown instead. This hairstyle, then, highlights the crown and it helps hold the crown in place.

Half up and half down

This is soft, romantic and young looking. Not the same sophisticated and modern style as the upsweep, this style is popular with women who are wearing a less formal dress and want to portray a more casual and romantic style.

Many women who choose a style that's half up and half down will also choose to have flowers in the back of their hair in lieu of a veil. This style is also excellent for highlighting the bride's facial features and giving some attention to the dress. It's also a style that will be easy to keep neat and tidy during both the wedding and reception.

You should now have some good ideas for popular bridal hairstyles. Just like the wedding dress, how to wear your hair is a highly personal decision. No one style will suit every bride.

New 2007 Hairstyles Revealed

Are you fashionably prepared and wearing one of the new 2007 Hairstyles? 2007 unfolds, many new hairstyles are making their appearance by fashion trendsetters and celebrities- if you haven't evaluated your own look yet, now is the time!

The time has come to trade in your flat irons and straightening hair products for hair that's been carefully cut to look like it's an effortless style, full of movement and irregular lengths, waves and a perfect blending of colors. If your hairstyle doesn't move naturally, look and feel soft and speak volumes (literally!) - your hairstyle is out of style. The new 2007 hairstyle reveals that there is more to style than a specific length or color of hair.

In order to get the fashionable hair of the year, you'll want to allow naturally wavy hair to wave freely with a nicely shaped cut that frames your face and consists of several different lengths and textures. Tone down tightly curled hair that was popular in the 80's with large rollers or curling iron, creating subtle curls and waves of varying lengths. Shorter hairstyles can get a boost of volume with styling products used at the top of the head, and cutting hair to taper softly around the neck for less volume through to the tips of your hair.

While no specific color will take over the latest hairstyles, there will be an increase in the skillful mixing of colors for a blended, natural effect. You'll notice blondes with light, metallic hair tips to brighten the look of their faces and add volume to their locks, while redheads will blend orange and chestnut tones to create a passionate look. Above all, the new 2007 hairstyle trend will involve natural looking, soft and touchable hair.

2007 Current Hairstyles - Revealed

Celebrities are constantly paving the way for styles and appearances that are considered fashionable, and the current 2007 hairstyles are no exception. Jessica Simpson is typically one of the leaders in what hairstyles become popular, and she's been known to change her hair as often as other people change their clothing! Nicole Ritchie, Brittany Murphy, and Jessica Alba have already been spotted wearing shorter, edgier hairstyles that are fast becoming the styling trend of the year.

Luckily for the rest of us (who don't have personal hairstylists following us around to make us look perfect all the time) the 2007 current hairstyles are easy to get and manage on a regular basis. Paris Hilton often sets the stage for what the rest of the world is about to wear, and her natural hair is cut to a fairly short length, and full of texture thanks to several different layers. To mimic her look, you'll want to add volume to the roots of your hair and blow-dry the cap of your hair upside down. This will lift your roots- then just let the rest of your hair fall naturally around your face. Whatever length you prefer to keep your hair, be sure that you have it cut to include face framing layers, and if it's wavy or curly- don't straighten it! With the right cut, you can wash at night and run your fingers through in the morning as your entire hair beauty routine!

Most commonly seen hairstyles on celebrities will involve waves and loose curls. Very fashionable this year is naturally bouncy hair, and the fastest way to be out of style is to keep your dated, straight as an arrow hairstyle from the previous years! Any length of hair is in this year, but the favorite 2007 current hairstyles will be those that allow your hair to move freely, and look like you didn't spend hours styling it.

Short Hairstyles For Black Men

Nothing looks better than a black man with a nice, short hairstyle. Luckily, it is very trendy to wear your hair short and you have many different options. Additionally, short hair allows for more convenience and ease of care. Depending on what you choose as a short hairstyle for black men, your new look could make all the difference in how you appear in both your professional and social life.

If you love the classic look of dreadlocks but you want to look clean and sharp, you can have short dreadlocks! You no longer need to have long dreadlocks in order for them to be stylish. Short dreadlocks allow the face to stay clear while looking neat and classy.

The afro is a statement all its own, but you don't have to have the biggest afro in the area to have a stylish look. A short afro shows that any man is attractive yet at the same time tasteful. If the short afro is still a bit too much maintenance for you, consider getting your hair cut down as much as possible without going completely bald. You not only have the neatest hairstyle, but you also have the easiest hair to care for! Going that short may not be comfortable for some, so find a compromise and get a very simple, yet classic hair cut.

One of the most overlooked short hairstyles for black men is going absolutely bald. Shaving your head is cutting your hair so therefore, it is a haircut! The only restriction to going completely bald is to make sure you have a good-shaped head. If you have an oddly shaped head, the absence of hair will only draw attention to it and your shaved hairstyle will become irrelevant.

Finally, men are very lucky to have some true artists available at barbershops and hair salons. These people can take cornrows to an entirely new level. Depending on what you want from your short hairstyle for black men, a creative cornrow might just be the way to go!

Finding Your Best Hairstyle

We see them everywhere; on TV, on magazine covers while we wait in shopping lines, and sometimes,on occasion, on a friend or a stranger. Just seeing a great hairstyle and falling in love with it is only the bare beginnings of creating a whole new you. Before sitting in your stylist's chair and expecting miracles from him or her, let's discuss what you need to take into consideration before those scissors touch a single strand.

First of all, consider your lifestyle. Do you work indoors in an office all day? You can afford to spend the extra time on your look should you desire since there should be nothing working against your hair such as wind or rain. Or are you out in the elements? Perhaps you go to the gym after work and need a style that dries by itself and yet still looks presentable? A precision cut or permanent wave may suit this type as they both would dry stylishly on their own. Longer hair of course should be clipped up in the wind to protect its health as well as its beauty.

Secondly, how much time do you really have to spend in the morning to create your fabulous look on a daily basis. Not how much time you'd like to spend or think you will, yet the harsh reality of how many actual minutes on the ticking clock do you have before you really need to hit the road to work or school? An everyday look should fit into your routine.

Should you only need a few, quick curls, then plugging in the old curling iron every morning will become second nature having it ready for a couple of quick applications. Do you shower in the morning and would rather have a cut that you can just blow dry or flatiron and have it lay right in place? Your style will demand more trips to the salon for trims as any style that has that precision cut to keep it low-maintenance will have to have the style kept "in shape". And this doesn't necessarily mean a short haircut as medium length styles can have blunt lines or textured ends to speed up the styling process having them styled straight or perhaps in a little "flip".

Have a little more time to spend on your do? Perhaps you would like a little more body or curl. Large, loose curls are are the rage now, ranging from gigantic 3-5 vertical curls that are left undisturbed to fall freely during the day to the more time-consuming S-waves. Should you prefer the latter on a regular basis, you should consider a design-wrap perm to lock these defined patterns in and cut your styling time way down. This will be less damaging to your hair in the long run as you won't be applying the direct heat from appliances on a daily basis.

So now you have an idea of time and environment. The next step is the hardest. Your head and facial shapes, as well as your neck structure are all very important things to consider in determining how well you might carry off that cute style you just saw. Unless you are fortunate enough to have a perfect oval face, a well defined jawline, a sleek neck of average length, all of which are well-balanced enabling you to wear short, medium or long styles of any type, you need to face the facts that you probably cannot wear just any hairstyle that you fall in love with.

Brush all your hair back off of your face, clip it or place a headband. What do you see? An oval, a square shape? Heart? Is it oblong? Or Diamond shaped?

Square, Heart and Oblong shapes usually tend to have "high foreheads". These require a part close to the center that allows hair to fall along the temples and covers up the majority of the forehead. Though the best remedy for this situation are bangs, or as they call them abroad, fringe. Bangs cover or break up areas that we would prefer to disguise.

Diamond and Heart shaped faces have very narrow chins and styles that hit about the jawline is best to help "fill in" this weak area. Or a longer style could be worn with layering in this area that may be textured with curls which would also serve the same purpose. However, Square and Oblong shapes have thick, wide jawlines and it's best to draw attention away from this area. These face shapes should not have a hairstyle that widens this area further. Hair should be flat (straight) against the sides of their chins or at least much longer or shorter to draw attention up or down away from the chin or jawline. Remember this can apply to anyone with a double chin or thick throat area as well.

These same rules apply to the top of the face. A short forehead, one who has a hairline that comes down close to the eyebrows, also needs camouflaging. Bangs are an option here. Diamond, Square and Oblong shapes do not want hairstyles that comb back to expose these flaws. It's best to allow hair to fall on the forehead somehow to disguise your less than perfect hairline.

A Diamond or Oblong shaped face needs to be very careful to avoid hairstyles with fullness across the nose and eye level as these styles will only make their face shape appear wider here. Neck length can appear shorter or longer according to your needs, depending on your style and its length. This physical characteristic is often overlooked.

Now to discuss your hair color. Yes, it's something you really need to consider as it can make or break any hairstyle. You can have the best haircut in the world for you, however, if the color is all wrong, it ruins the whole look. For those of you, who already color their hair or are considering it, know these important factors. Black and very dark shades are not just for the young-at-heart, they are for the younger and younger looking crowd only. These unforgiving colors will only harshen the features of anyone who has found themselves with fine lines and wrinkles. Very fair, porcelain skin should steer clear of very light shades as this usually washes them out.

Determine if you are a warm or a cool color person. Yes, it's something else to think about, yet it is a good thing to know not just for hair color, yet for makeup color and clothing colors as well. While some folks are lucky enough to wear either one, some look only good in one or the other.

Look good in pinks, blues, or violets? These make you a "cool color person". Only look good in warm colors? Then you usually select reds, oranges, or yellows. Green is a neutral shade and some colors steer away from their usual temperature. For example, red can be cool if it has purple undertones like say a burgundy and yet it can be quite warm if it has more of an orange cast to it.

Why is all of this important?

Well, if you are a cool color person, you cannot wear true reds or an auburn hair color unfortunately. Ever see a redhead wearing purple clothes? This is an extreme example, yet I think you get the picture. Likewise if you only look good in warm colors, anything violet, blue or possessing a blue cast would be out of the question.

Yes, there IS a lot to consider when you are talking beauty and fashion. However, once you sift through all the determining factors and find what really works best for you, you'll learn to really spot a great haircut or style that would be perfect for you instantaneously. And shopping for clothes and makeup will become much easier and fun!

Spare yourself the heartache of crying yourself to sleep knowing your hair will take forever to grow out from a bad style. Find a stylist who will really, truly listen and who has this knowledge and then some. ALWAYS take pictures with you when you want to make a hairstyle change. Not only will you know both of you are on the same page about your looks, you will reap the rewards of all your homework and knowledge. And feeling better about yourself can only lead to more confidence and a better outlook on life in general.

The Hottest Hairstyle For The 2007 Prom

Prom hairstyles are just one out of a number of a number of concerns that young women face as this festive night approaches. The prom gives young women an excuse to get all decked out and go to town. The Prom is the first formal party that these young adults will attend. With adequate and proper most of these young adults planning, most teens have flawless, first-class night. This why it is very important for your prom hairstyle to match the attire and attitude of this festive night. Young women have a number of diverse hairstyles to choose from, but there are only a few hairstyles that will truly enhance their overall beauty on this special night. The hairstyle that you choose to don on prom night should make you feel sensational, elegant, and beautiful.

Hairstyle that have been donned on other occasion might just be exactly what your looking for. The most superb hairstyles can be found in photos of celebrities attending various red carpet events. At these events both classic and chic hairstyles are unveiled. If you are unable to come up with a hairstyle that is right for you. You might want to consider getting some advice from a professional hair stylist to help you pinpoint the correct hairstyle for this memorable event.

There are a number of factors that come into play when you are creating a superb hairstyle. You should go with a hairstyle that matches your personality, rather than one that is classic. Certain hairstyles tend to complement individual facial shapes better than others do. So you should start experimenting with different hairstyles a few months before the prom. If you don't already use hair care products on a regular basis you should start using them, and you should schedule regular hair trims to keep those split ends in check months before prom night. Whatever you do, don't make any drastic hairstyle changes prior to the prom.

If you happen to be a young lady that has short hair consider yourself lucky, because your hairstyle is going to take about half of time that it would take if your hair was long. Short hair is great because it is very easy to work and it shows off the nape of your neck. With short hair all you really need to do is apply a small amount of hair wax and style your hair in a manner that frames your face. Young women that have short hair can sweep their bangs off to one side and then pin them back using pretty hair clips that complement their dress and corsage.

Most ladies with medium length hair seem to think that there is nothing that they can do to their hair to spruce it up and make it interesting. If you have medium length hair you have the advantage of being able to making your hair appear to be longer, or shorter than it really is relatively easily. If you desire a shorter look, take small sections of your hair, and twist them in the direction of the back of your head. Then you simply place pins where you would normally have a ponytail. Then twist the ends of your hair out and away from your head. If you would like you hair to be longer just attach some high quality fake hair in the back and style the way you would if had long hair.

With long hair you have a variety of different hairstyles to choose from. First of all you can wear your hair down and showoff your long locks. Or you have the option of pinning your hair back if you want to achieve a more elegant look. Or you can twist or curl the ends of your hair before you pin it back into a beautiful shaped crown.

If your hair is curly then your delicate locks will look great dangling just off of your shoulders. If your hairs not naturally curly, but you'd like to wear your hair curled to the prom you are in luck. Just use some heat protective and curly the ends of the hair into traditional ringlets. With this style you will make quite an impact. This style will frame your face, and help you create that romantic look that all of the women at the prom will be striving to achieve.

Whatever you decide to do with your hair remember the golden rules. Make sure that hair is shiny, vibrant, and healthy looking. Resist the temptation of styling your hair with hairspray. Hair that has been weighed down with to many products will look crusty and dull, and is not likely to impress your date. Sophistication and coordination are two key factors that you going to take into consideration if you want to show up looking like the prom queen!

Long Hair and Updo Hairstyles

You have long hair and you are ready for an updo or "long hair" service and you go to a full service salon and what - they don't offer "long hair" service. Guess its not so full service after all. So you go to another beautician and they don't know what to do either. Why is that? Some of the reasons hairstylists don't offer "long hair" or updo service is because:

None of their clients have long hair

Never learned how

Takes too long

Learned, tried it, but got out of practice and forgot

Too confusing

To the hairstylist, watching is easy. But when you are actually doing the work, it becomes confusing. It's hard for a hairstylist to get and keep clients. If you are able to offer total hair services, including long hair, then you'll be keeping new clients instead of sending them away. One way to help you get over some of the points listed above is to practice on a wig or mannequin. When you are in-between appointments, this will offer you practice to gain confidence and allows you to display your work to your customers.

If you are good at long hair, then you need to be the hairstylist that your competitors send their customers to. Advertise that you do long hair. There are plenty that don't do long hair and this approach may get you the client list you need.

Let the bridal shops know you are available, along with the formal dress shops. Girls going to prom always want fancy hairstyles. Offer your services free to the bridal show as a promotion for your business. This helps you gain more updo customers and helps the bridal shop. Win-win.

You can also create a photo album of the mannequins you have been practicing on, or on customers. This will give prospective customers your ability and creativity level. Another idea is to work with a clothing store on their special event or sale days - and offer your services to attract customers. You can make these books up inexpensively with a digital camera and color copies. Have them bound with some of your business cards and ask if you can display them at the bridal shops.

Complimentary cards are very good, too. You can offer a discount on the back of the card. When a client gets their hair done, then give them some cards to hand out when they are asked where they got such a cute hairstyle. This works especially well at high schools before proms and dances. As always, if they don't need long hair services, they will probably pass the card onto a friend.

How much should you charge or expect to pay for long hair or updo services? Well, its different all over the country, but in general, the price should be at least $5 over the normal hairstyle whether it's a shampoo and blowdry. Be prudent in your pricing as if you get a client that will only require 15 minutes for a braid or a quick updo, then you may not want to charge more.

Adopting Celebrity Hairstyles

Every now and then, celebrities set the fashion trends and hairstyles that are followed by their fans. Celebrities make a fashion statement by sporting different, funky, trendy hair styles from short ones to elegant and long ones, from wavy or curly ones to up-styles. Such celebrity hairstyles cannot be sported by common people during regular days of work or school but are saved for special occasions like the weddings and betrothal for the reason that it is a very special moment to look like a celebrity and considering the costs involved in sporting it. Celebrity hairstyles add sophistication and elegance to the reception or betrothal or wedding. They can be made practical or casual, or romantic long hair styles or modern short styles according to the individual's style.

It is should be kept in mind that all celebrity hair styles won't suit everyone. It depends on the shape and structure of the face actually. The celebrities change their hairstyles constantly as they have a team of hair styling professionals taking care of their hair. If the person has a long face, he cannot sport the long and sexy wave hairstyle of Jessica Alba. Short hair is back with a bang if the face looks like that of Kylie Minogue's. The person can sport a short and wispy hair style which will look sexy, stylish and up to date.

Mistakes to be avoided while copying the celebrity hairstyles:

Celebrity hairstyles require high maintenance and lot of time: Since celebrities have a team of hair care professionals, their hairstyle looks fabulous all day long. So, when copying a celebrity hair style it should be discussed beforehand with the hairstylist to find out how much time will be required to produce and the maintenance required in between getting the desired result. Some celebrity hairstyles like that of Jennifer Lopez requires a minimum of 4 - 5 hours for conditioning, straightening and ironing. The person should decide if he can go through the styling session and the cost involved for it.

The celebrity hair style should suit the shape of the face who wants to sport it: The hairstyle sported by the celebrity can look very fabulous on him but will the same be good on any one else? Of course not, unless and until the person's face shape matches with that of the celebrity. A person with oval face shape can sport a hair style of Julia Roberts or Jennifer Aniston. A person with a round face can follow Drew Barrymore or Kate Winslet. People with oblong or rectangular face can sport a hairstyle of Kirstie Alley or Gwyneth Paltrow. Square face people can follow the foot steps of Demi Moore or Sandra bullock etc.

Sporting a hairstyle without even knowing how it will look on the person: A hairstyle which looks awkward on a person can cause embarrassment. Internet has made it easy to see how a hair style will look on the person by trying it virtually and see for him online using software specially designed for a make over.

Trying a celebrity hairstyle which does not suit one's hair type: If a person having curly hair wants to sport a dead straight hairstyle, it is a painstaking effect to him as well as the hairstylist. Instead he can opt for a hairstyle which suits the nature of his hair.

Curly Hairstyles for Women

Women can sport curly hairstyles for any occasion. Women with curly hair desire to have straight hair and vice versa. Curly hairstyles on the whole can be sported by everyone and anyone. Women with curly hair need to take care as they can get frizzy, with split ends and become stressed. Women with medium curls too have to treat their hair with care and the medium state of the hair makes it easy to get damaged. The needs of the curly hair are different as their structure itself is very different from other types. Short hairstyles and medium hairstyles look gorgeous when sported by women with curly hair. Short and curly hair style for women gives a casual yet stylish look. Curls can be created by different methods. A diffuser is used to create loose or bouncy curls while a curling iron will create a textured curl. When styling curly hair women need to use a pick or a comb as brushes can make the hair frizz out. Tighter curls can be created using a pencil or small barrel curling iron.

Women hairstyle tips and ideas for curly hair:

Quality conditioner, shampoos and gels should be used to get fabulous hairstyles. Ringlets can be an interesting way of adding curls to the women's hairstyles without the need to go for hardworking hairstyles. Woman with straight hair too can make them curly using different hairstyle techniques. Good quality hairstyling products are available to make curls for women's hairstyles. Curly strands should not be let to become frizzy or poofy unless such style is required.

Women's hairstyles for plus sized women:

Larger body proportions has to be balanced with the right kind of women's hairstyles as it is very important that people notice others and remember them from top down. Hairstyles provide an opportunity to create a drama that attracts the eyes. More elegant, chic or bolder hairstyles make a statement without giving much importance to the body shape and size. Care needs to be taken to make the hairstyle flatter the person wearing it and should reflect the style and personality.

Do's and don'ts of hairstyles for plus sized women:

The hair should be worn above the shoulders because when the hair is worn longer than the shoulder length it creates a single mass silhouette with the neck, head and shoulders merged into the body. The length of the hair should be around half an inch above the shoulders or even shorter to add neck length.

Hair should be kept off the face. Whichever style is sported, a long, short or medium, the hair should be directed upwards, off the face to make the face look fuller and enhanced. Normally a hairstyle which adds a little bit of height on top of the head and the hair directed back and up will work well.

The women's hairstyles should frame the face instead of closing it. Different kinds of hairstyles can be tried, instead of sticking to one particular hairstyle for lifetime. Fashion and style change periodically. The same way the face and the color change. Different kinds of hairstyles should be experimented. A hairdresser can be consulted for a better advice.
